some ideas

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi! I teach in an inner city school with behavior problems too.

Here are somethings that work for me and/or my school:

1. Think time: another third grade teacher and I use eachothers room. We have set up a desk away
from the class and turned so the student can't see others. In the desk is a sheet that must be filled out making the student say what they did, should have done, consequences should be, and if they feel they are ready to return to class. This seems to work great and the students have never disrupted the other classroom because it is a new teacher and enviroment

2. I reinforce the postive

more than negative. I have a gum ball picture (photo copy with white gum balls on it) the students when caught doing a postive get to color a gum ball... when the machine is filled they get a reward. **If they are caught coloring a gum ball when they didn't earn it they get their machine thrown away for two weeks. (Other students well tell on them)

3. I have a treat bag with cheap candy in it. This works the same as gum balls but is a reward right away that they need from time to time. I'll say, "Mary, I really like how you are listening and working hard at learning. You may go to the treat bag."

Hope this helps
