listening centers

Clip to ScrapBook
I know what you are feeling...I also have a girl in my class this year who is functioning at a 1st grade level. She can read some, math she can count to 100 but can only count back from 5, and unable to pass grade level
spelling tests.

Here is some things that have really been working for me

I have a listening center set up in my room for all students to use. I record her spelling words and directions on a tape and she works on this during my spelling time. I limit her to 5 words a week.(for now)

I also have phonic workbook pages with directions recorded for her to do and books on tape

for her to read along with. I have small reading groups in my classroom that are not divided by high average and low reader; but, a mix of abilities. I have her read the short sentences that are packed with sight words that she knows. This has helped build her confidence and reading. I have all the title one teachers in my building pull her for 20-30 min. 3-4 times a week and work one-on-one with her. This works much better then sending her with a group 5 times a week.

Keep in touch I would love to hear what you are doing too.

sharon
