I've taught 3rd grade for 7 years. My most favorite concept to teach is landform maps. I find as many different landform maps as I can. Then we begin by discussion - what are landforms etc. - cover terms and make our own landform maps of the U.S. using a salt-dough to form our own landforms. The students are given an out-line of the continental U.S. and then form their own map by looking at a paper (flat) map. We make the maps on a piece of cardboard or tagboard. - I posted another idea for communities on this board in Feb. that is also fun to teach. Tammy
