moving up
By Mary

Clip to ScrapBook
I sympathize with you. My principal asked me to move from my third grade ESL class this year to a 3rd/4th combination ESL class next year. I will have twice as many kids as in my district, I'm only supposed to have 19 in
3rd grade but their is no cap on 4th grade and there are already 31 kids enrolled in the new class. I asked him for the rational behind his request and he told me it was because he couldn't find a 4th grade ESL teacher. Since it's only March and the new jobs are only just now being posted, I don't think he tried too hard. Like you, I think he expects me to be flexible. I moved from
11 years of teaching 2nd to teaching 3rd to be accomodating. I don't want to move up anymore either but I'm afraid if I refuse, it will just create bad feelings and he will still assign it to me.
Good luck to you. Sounds like we both need it.
