strategies that work

Clip to ScrapBook
I use this book constantly- truly it has become such a regular reference, I can't tell you which are good because they all re. Basically though, think thematically to use lessons to build. For instance before you can get
to higher level inferential thinking, you nee to have sutdents have a solid understanding of cause/effect. To teach a compare/contrast lesson, students must firs have the language of similarites etc.. So, read this book in "chunks" rather than individual lessons- I look at some of the topics as two week threads which are then to be built on. However, this book is not to be used front
to back as you obviously know. Try any of the lessons and tweak them to make them your own- bu as concepts and to keep track of skills taught, I find this and Guided Reading and Writing for lessons and recommended books to use to illustrate a concept, essential. Good luck!
