Third Grade Reading
By Chris

Clip to ScrapBook
I can understand your frustrations. This is my 5th year teaching...but my first year with third graders. I have kids that are also at both ends of the reading spectrum. My school uses a new basal series, which is complete
with comprehension questions, skills assessments, etc. The only problem is that it does not take into account that the stories are too easy for some and others can't even begin to read them fluently. My experience has been with first graders using leveled books in guided reading lessons. I always knew where my kids were...I can't say that I feel very confident about that with the series
I have to use now. This is my first year at my school...so I have just remained quiet about my feelings and frustrations with their reading curriculum. I have been slowly accumulating multiple copies of books through book orders. Next year I plan to integrate whay I want to do with the basals. Good luck!
