A great book to check out is called 4 Blocks by Patricia Cunningham. She has a whole book on Guided Reading. Basically what I do is a prereading activity such as taking a picture walk through the book and discussing the pictures or predicting what the students think will happen by looking at the cover of the book. Then we read the story. You can have them read it alone, with a partner, or in a small group with you. When we are done with the story we discuss the story, check our predictions, or act out the story. If you have any questions e-mail me. I would be more than happy to help you out. Shannon
