I teach grade 3 as well, but in a rural area. If you teach in the city, we have a entirely different set of problems. If you are in the city your children are desperate for attention and approval and they are very impulsive.| It's a tough deal. If not, then try some of these tactics: Give them time to share their writing and projects together as a class. Train them to listen ot their peers and seek out their peers for feedback...have them edit their papers in partners, meet to share work, and photocopy some child's good work and pass it out to the entire class to review. Have them tell YOU why THEY liked | | it. Likewise, photocopy something that isn't so good (block out name) and do the same activity. I usually make a copy of the work on the overhead and we discuss it as a class.Overall: Share time, peer editing/share, photcopying and distribution...also...don't let them come up to you, and don't repeat yourself. Let them get missed instructions from someonese else in the class who heard you. Let them know that they are not allowed out of their seats without first getting permission. Hope this helped. I'm not a seasoned teacher...but have been full time teaching for 5 years and Have done some things that have worked for me. They're stated above.
