Third Grade
By Shannon Jeffries

Clip to ScrapBook
I have been teaching third grade for three years and I love it. The kids are at a great age and love learning. My best advice is to get organized and buy a book with file folder games in it. This will help with
their favorite questions- " Now what do I do?"
Some great books to invest in are 4 block books by Patricia Cunningham. They are great for teaching reading, writing, and word activities.
Another great idea for writing is to divide a piece of paper into fours. In the middle draw a box and write a topic sentence. Then in each box have the students write a supporting
sentence about that topic. Put it altogether and you will have some great paragraph writers.
One more idea to help with the question "How do you spell that?" I take a piece of poster board and put library pockets on it (one for each letter of the alphabet). I put a index card in each pocket and label them with the letters of the alphabet. When students need a word spelled they go get the card and I will help them write the word on the card. The next time they need to spell that word they know just where to find it.
