Teaching
By Gayle

Clip to ScrapBook
I am in my second year of teaching so I will give you some insight from my perspective. First of all, if you want a 9-5 job DON'T choose teaching. I spend many hours outside of class grading papers and most of all planning.
In order to do a good job (at least for beginning teachers) you HAVE to put in quite a few hours. Once you get experience this might change somewhat(I'm not sure. It is fulfilling though! Don't be too hard on yourself if EVERY kid just doesn't "get it". As I'm sure you will learn in school, there are so many factors that go into a child being able to grasp something. Sometimes his/her
homelife can hamper learning. Just be aware of that!
Also, state testing can be very stressful. Here we are brand new teachers and we should be working on content and classroom management but yet we have these stupid tests that we have to worry about on top of everything else. You are only human. I don't mean to be negative because in some ways I really love teaching but in the first couple of years it is very hard (especially if you don't have an experienced teacher to help you.) Good Luck! We need good teachers but I would hate for you to not know what you are getting into.
