Thanks for your replies. Yes, I have given the 'boss' jobs to do inside and observed the children outside. They wait by the door or on a bench for him. I spoke to the boss' Mother today after school and she was very supportive.
He is the youngest in a large family of cousins etc, so this could be a reason. I forgot to mention that this individual is also adopted and he was told this from a very young age...his brother in the 3rd grade is also adopted, but they had different Mothers. His adopted father left to live in the U.S when he was 4 and told him he didn't want to see him again...so the child has a
lot of difficult issues to work through, all of which must contribute to his behaviour.

I am continuing to monitor the situation and am including this issue in circle times and class discussions. In England we don't have youth workers in our schools.. they sound like a good idea! Do you have these in all schools?
