Story Chain
By Lori 2

Clip to ScrapBook
I did this with my daughter's now third grade classmates for a summer reading book club project last summer. We read the book (Ramona Forever) and then wrote events that happened in the story on 1 inch by 4 inch strips of
paper. We then asked what the first event was and began to make a paper chain in the order the events took place in the story. They really had fun and we sometimes had to refer back to the book to get a few of the events they had written down in the correct order. We then talked about which event was the most exciting in the book and where was it in the chain -- introducing the terms
climax and plot.

You could do the same idea with different things -- making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or something.

The girls really loved making the paper chain. They then took the chain to give to our local children's bookstore owner for her birthday. She wore it draped about her all day and had her birthday picture made in it.

Hope that helps.
Lori
