Internet?
By Kristal

Clip to ScrapBook
I also teach 2nd grade and, like you, have computer centers. We have a few software programs, but most of the time, the kids get on the internet. Is this possible in your classroom? I bookmark certain sites and have taught
the kids how to assess those sites. Most of the sites are appropriate games (billybear4kids.com and beaniefun.com) but I have also bookmarked author websites (janbrett.com) and topic websites that are level appropriate. So far, the students have not figured out how to go to websites that are not bookmarked (most do not have a computer at home so this is their first computer experience).
While some may argue with the educational value of the games bookmarked, my students' computer skills have increased significantly. They have much better coordination with the mouse and are learning where certain keys are on the keyboard by typing in their names. I hope this helps!
