I love Mad Minutes By Andrea

I did Mad Minutes in grades 1-10 and loved them! In 2nd grade we had 25-30 problems to complete in one mintue. When the minute was up, we drew a line after the last problem completed. We only got credit for the number of correct problems IN A ROW. If we skipped a problem or answered it incorrectly, only the correct problems before that counted. We charted our progress on a graph. Since it takes longer for some kids to catch on, we didn't get a regular grade, just participation points and stickers and smiley faces on our papers. Trying to do better was motivation enough! Another idea that | | some of my teachers used was to give small prizes for completion of 6 with a 100%. By the time we were in 3rd grade we could do 45-60 in a minute.I think Mad Minutes are a great way to reinforce basic math skills, and I'm so glad that my teachers used them.
