This year is my third loop with first then second graders. Even tho you think you need something new and exciting, the children really do like the routines and the familiarity of things they had done in first grade. The parents absolutely love the comforting feeling of knowing their child's teacher and their expectations. I do start the second grade year off with a unit on two's. We do many activities with pairs, symmetry, the children bring in pictures of themselves when they were two and I put it in a center for them to guess.
