I also teach 2nd and encountered the same issue. The tech teacher (TRT) at my building helped me build a HS stack showing the stages of the pumpkin life cycle that we named "From Seed to Pupmkin." It was interactive and actually had a quiz at the end. You could have students help create the various stacks/text for somehing similar. We've also explored using HS for Famous Americans, and Geography (Where in the World Are We?) to see how the planet, country, state, city, school, classroom are all related.
