Poetry projects
By Cindy

Clip to ScrapBook
Each spring I would do a unit on poetry. We would read lots of poems and write some of our own. After students have written a poem I would have them type it out on the computer. The students enjoyed using different fonts for
each poem. Or they could write it out neatly. They would cut it out and mounted it on to a piece of artwork. The artwork was a sponge paint design, water color swirls, or a collage of torn paper. We then would compile them into a book. You can get fancy and do book binding or use construction paper covers and tie up with yarn or ribbon. At the end of the month long unit we would hold a
Poetry Pagent during the half hour just before school got out. We would invite parents and maybe another class and the students would present their books and read one poem to the group. Afterwards we would serve cookies and juice. I liked to have the pagent right around Mother's Day. I hope this gives you some ideas.
