comprehension

Clip to ScrapBook
I read Strategies That Work and use the comprehension boosting techniques they write about. Each student has a reading journal. For each chapter they are to make a connection to what they've read, ask a question about the chapter, and make a prediction about the next chapter. Of course all these need to be modeled and practiced before they can do it on their own. I've noticed that my students think about what they're reading much more than before I used the journals. I meet with them as a group to share/discuss the journals.
