I knew it sounded confusing, sorry. Because the children were 7 & 8, I had them fold the strip of paper left to right in half, then in half again and once more to make 8 boxes going the length of the strip. Open up the strip and fold top to bottom in half to make a nice straight line to mark for your timeline. Hope that helps.
