Hang in there for a while and see if things get better By Lori

I don't know how long you have been teaching, and I don't know where you teach, but I do know that most schools have blocks of time each day that teachers are required to teach certain subjects/skills. Last year, I taught| in a school that required 2 1/2 hours of reading every morning, 1 hour of math, and 30 minutes to an hour of writing every day. That was for first graders. It was challenging at first because like you, I like to teach in the moment, but I did see how my children benefitted from getting so much reading, math, and writing. I had to find ways to fit in units and other lessons. I just | | had to make them work in my writing lessons, math lessons, and even reading. I was in a one year contract last year and I am subbing this year. Subbing has its pros and cons. You don't have to grade papers at night or really prepare a lesson. On the other hand, you really don't know what you are having to teach until that morning, and that can be frustrating, especially if the teacher did not leave good lesson plans. Also the pay is not great. My advice is to really pray about the situation, and try to hold out for at least the rest of the semester if not the year. Then you can look for another job if you still aren't happy.
