hang in there...

Clip to ScrapBook
It sounds like your principal is very structured-- but it doesn't sound TOO over the top, i've been in 3 districts, and all of my principals have expected us to teach about the same in terms of time alotted to subjects. I
know it's probably hard, but i would make him aware of your feelings, concerns, and background. I agree that it's unreasonable to expect teachers to be teaching certain subjects at certain times-- it's hard to fit this all in when working around other pull-out subjects like music, pe, etc.

Do you have other 1st grade teachers you can collaborate with? Get as much help as you can, although

i know this is also challenging at times. I started teaching K in a private/catholic school, i was the only K teacher, so didn't have the others for support. Fortunatley, however, my principal was very supportive. Now i've moved into Public Education, where i've taught 1 for 2 years now. This is also challenging-- especially being new and 'fresh,' you have lots of ideas and conceptions as to how things will/should be. You have to get used to teaching certain series, in addition to just getting 'comfortable' with teaching.

Just try to hang in there, do your best to reach a balance that works for all involved. Try to find a positive support person in your building if the principal isn't a possibility. Good Luck.
