Maureen, This is my first year using this series too and I love it. I have seen a big improvement already in all of my students. I find it easy to follow and everything is there in the teacher's manual. I use the Four| Blocks method and I find it fits in easily. I use the 2 stories per week. They only give you 5/6 sight words per week which are included in both stories for that week. I go over the vocab words before each story. I go over the words, their meanings, and have the students use them in a sentence. I dont require them to memorize them but it happens because the words are in the stories. | | I usually spend 2 days on each story and the 5th day I assess them students over 1 of the stories for the week. The only thing I have a problem with is there are so many worksheets. I have the practice book, phonics book, and the grammar book that goes with the series. I use a different speller. I find it very hard to fit in all of the sheets they recommend without overloading on worksheets. I cut a lot of them out. I found that my students have picked up on the grammar skills but at this point in 1st grade they may understand it but don't apply it in their own writing. I feel this program is very systematic and following it has made a difference in my students reading, spelling, phonics, and writing abilities. I hope this helped!
