I have the students make a kite. The body of the kite is a quilt square, they have to make a pattern on the square. I have seen some that have both sides with quilt squares and others that just have a spring color glued to the back. For the tail I let them cut and paste ribbons on.
These look really pretty hanging from the ceiling.
