Tic-Tac-Toe Grid
By Tina in OK

Clip to ScrapBook
It's probably a little late to implement for this school year, but I send a homework folder home each Monday, to be returned on Friday. (Which makes it nice because busy families can plan around church and other activities.)
The front of the homework sheet has a tic tac toe grid. To complete, they choose three activities that make a straight line. (I TRY to find activities that are family oriented and open-ended.) On the back, I list the 5 new word wall words and the spelling list, which are assessed each Friday so they have to practice those several times through the week, too. (At the first of the
year I have memory work, like counting by 5's to 50 then 100.)A reading log is on the bottom of page 2 that lists the day of the week and the basal story to practice for that day. (Parent or fluent reader must sign.) Also in the folder is anything needed for the homework such as worksheet or Scholastic News, etc.

I have done this homework for two years and have had great response. I usually get all folders back, sometimes it takes til Monday. Really important messages go home in the folders and I don't have parents calling me at home for the spelling list.
