homework

Clip to ScrapBook
I expect my students to read at least 10 min. every night. Those that are emergent readers may be read to for half of that time. I also encourage math fact practice and spelling every night for 5 min. each. I provide flash
cards and ideas for using them besides just flashing them. I also have a home reading folder for each child that is used to check out classroom books that are at their reading level. (my 20 students go from emergent readers to 6 that are reading between 3-6th grade material independantly. So one size doesn't fit all)I also encourage parents to review time and money concepts twice a week
right now as we recently finished those units. I've heard that you should assign 10 minutes of homework for each year in school. I figure that this is their second year in school so 20 min. of homework daily shouldn't be too much for my first graders. This is the first month that I am having the students report their home reading minutes to me. Most are well over my recommendations.
