    curriculum mapping

There was "big talk" at our school both last spring and again this fall about trying to map our curriculum to center it more firmly on what is tested in our Criterion Referenced Tests (CRT's). I really hate the general idea because it seems the ultimate example of teaching to the test. There are some legitimate reasons to map a curriculum, particularly if you are concerned about its scope and sequence. But just to match it to some standardized test doesn't seem to me to be a legitimate reason.

Since the discussions took place we haven't heard a single thing more. I am hoping the idea just went quietly away, but I bet not. This was supposed to be an entire district activity. If we do it, I'll try to let you know how it works. I'd be interested in reading anyone else's experiences with it.
