grading
By Jana

Clip to ScrapBook
A lot of that depends on your grade level, and the series that you use for reading and math. I teach first grade and we use Saxon math. I simply check off if students are returning daily work-- i correct these and hand back,
no grade is given, just a 'star.' We take a weekly assessment and fact test, these grades are recorded.

As far as 'Reading' goes... We use the newest Houghton-Mifflin series along with the 4-Block format, so we take a comprehension test about every 3 weeks. This grade is recorded then. We have a weekly spelling test over high-frequencies and transfer words, this grade is recorded weekly.

Other

than that, you're looking at having to have some sort of informal system in place to make notes as to what you're noticing on individual students' reading level, fluency, phonetic knowledge, writing progress, etc. You have to do a lot of informal one-on-one assessing.
