Writing Spelling Words
By Helen

Clip to ScrapBook
I have taught for over 30 years and first grade for o25 of those....students need some drill and structure even though we do a lot of play with them too. I like many of the working with words activities from the Four Block
Literacy Program..and my kiddos love to rainbow write their words, using colors of their choice and to write them for me using red for vowels and blue for consonants...I even have first graders sometimes write a words using blue for inital consonants sounds/ red for vowels/ and green for final consonant sound. This works better for some words than for others...chose your words for
this with your students levels in mind.
I also may ask them to write words at home using anything but a pencil...they love using a ballpoint pen, crayon, or marker.
