Twins/siblings
By Helen

Clip to ScrapBook
I too have had sets of twins over the years..I have tried to allow each to have a chance to be an individual..not referring to them as the twins...but as Mathew and Andrew .
I have not had a problem so much with twins,
as with siblings. I have had brothers, one a first grade repeater and the other entering the first grade for the first tiem....The repeater had really just needed maturing time....he hit the ground running and was doing a super job in class, reading, writng, Math etc. The younger of the two was struggling, and became a problem at school and at home. Then he just quit trying...He was
in his older brother's shadow....I had tried to discourage the parents from placing the two in the same room and finally they saw what was happening. With the principals help, we moved the younger child and gave him a fresh start....he was no longer in direct "competition" with his brother and began to pull out of it, although he too, repeated first grade. Some children mature earlier than others,,,birthdates are not always what we would like for them to be as indicators of readiness.
