K-screening By Beth Armstrong

Sara, Our school registars k students inthe March for the next year. There is the usual paper work to be turned in and parents are alowed to request the teacher of they would like for their child to havae does not mean| they get that teacher. All K teachers then set up a time for that student to be brought to school to be given the Gessell Screening. If you are not familiar with this test it does not test intelligence but maturity. After each teacher has screened their students we sit down as a team and look at the test of students who we feel are not ready for K and recommend they go to our pre-K program | | which has been approved by our school board. After all students are tested and all have been placed we send out letters to the parents telling them where their child has been placed. some parents get upset but for the most part it goes real well. Since this is a board policy and the team decides ,if the parents do not agree with our decision they usually take their children to another school. They then realize later on wha t we tried to tell them was for the best interest of their child. I hope this helps alittle ,if I can be of more assistance or you would like to visit our school just let us know and we will try to help you out any way we can.
