Let them know
By Jacey

Clip to ScrapBook
I found that in Kindergarten, the kids really get upset or worked up when you are not there. In my opinion, I would let them know you will not be there that day. They will be full of questions... when will you be back,
what will happen, etc. I think that the best way to help them deal with this is to let them know. I would assure them that you will back the next day and that you will miss them.- BUT YOU WILL BE BACK!
A great teaching moment for this is to prepare them for the sub. I would let them know that you will talk with the sub and find out how they did while you were gone, "But I know
you will be perfect" kind of things.
As for a sub, I can't really give you mcuh advice because I don't know how your class is or what kinds of things will occur on the day that you are gone. I personally would not do anythingwith new concepts. I know that I like to be there when something is being taught for the first time- just to see who "gets its" and who doesn't. If you have centers that the kids do, I would make them review centers for that day.
I am sure that the sub. would be able to handle your lessons, centers and such- but I know that I like to be there to see what is being learned, what are problems areas etc. I have found that someone who is filling in for me is never really able to tell me exactly what I am looking for. As for leaving things for the sub.- I would let him/her know which children need attention, what are problem areas/situations, etc. I would also leave notes on what exactly you do for transitions, getting in line, etc. This will help her/him and your kids.
Finally, it will be ok. it is hard to leave your babies with a stranger- no matter how great they are. The best moment will be the next day when your kids come up to you and tell you how much they missed you.
