rhymes

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi

Learning to hear rhymes is one of the first things to teach in Kdg. I like to begin by reading nursery rhymes or a book that has rhyming words in couplets--each 2 lines rhyme at the end. The first time I read it, I just stress the rhyme. The second time I read it, I leave off the second rhyming word. "Jack and JILL, went up the_____" Let the students complete the sentence. Then say, "Jill rhymes with____", and let the student supply the rhyming word. The teacher always gives the first rhyming word, and lets the student supply the second because children remember the last thing they heard more easily.
