Hurray for you, GR is needed in K. I've been doing GR for the last two years and I begin mine as early as Oct. Not all students need to be in GR on a daily basis and it's okay. I too wanted to see all my students each day but it is impossible. My lowest student I see 3 times a week but they also work with an assistant the other days. My high students I see twice a week and they see the assistant once or twice. Use your writing center to make sure that they are getting the writing aspect. I have a routine that I follow with each group depending on the group I'm working with but in general it's the same. 1. Writing - words or letters the group knows; this is a review. 2. Discussion about the book; intro if it's a new book. 3. Students reading; I do Reading records at this time. 4. Teaching point - 1 to 2 per session. Alot of time it will depend on how the students handled the text but I usually have one picked out.
