PLAY
By Diane Miller

Clip to ScrapBook
PLAY, PLAY, PLAY!!!!!! Children learn through PLAY! I put literacy types of props in the housekeeping center. Cook books, phone books, blank paper for lists, menus, pens, old mail, whatever! In the block area, put in
order forms for sizes of blocks for building, gasoline prices etc. TRUST CHILDREN! If you provide a program rich in literacy and balanced, the children will learn. Free choice activities could include blank books, all sorts of writing materials, unlimited papers with staplers, tapes, fasteners, paper clips. I also make a "play school" center filled with smaller versions of the Daily
News, alphabet games, word wands, a small flag, all kinds of teacher stuff including teacher jewelry. I know it is getting more difficult for kindergarten teachers to hold on to the childhood of a five year old. But if we don't , who will. Have fun everyone!!!!!! PLAY!!!!!!!!!!
