PLAY By Diane Miller

PLAY, PLAY, PLAY!!!!!! Children learn through PLAY! I put literacy types of props in the housekeeping center. Cook books, phone books, blank paper for lists, menus, pens, old mail, whatever! In the block area, put in| order forms for sizes of blocks for building, gasoline prices etc. TRUST CHILDREN! If you provide a program rich in literacy and balanced, the children will learn. Free choice activities could include blank books, all sorts of writing materials, unlimited papers with staplers, tapes, fasteners, paper clips. I also make a "play school" center filled with smaller versions of the Daily | | News, alphabet games, word wands, a small flag, all kinds of teacher stuff including teacher jewelry. I know it is getting more difficult for kindergarten teachers to hold on to the childhood of a five year old. But if we don't , who will. Have fun everyone!!!!!! PLAY!!!!!!!!!!
