reading trouble

Thanks Cindy. The reading test is easy. There's ten words. Each word is either one or two letters long. They want them to be able to read very simple words as they enter first grade. This child enjoys the rest of the day.
She gets individual attention with everything but reading time. I am meeting with her and her parents and our school councelor on Monday. I'm thinking it's too easy for her and she can already read or like you suggested: it might be a fear. She doesn't mind being in groups but she prefers one-on-one. Would it help if we pulled her aside when it came to reading time and had her work one
on one with me or another class helper? This school works on an accelerated system. Each grade is required to be able to read on a certain level and be able to do grade level work. In other areas like math (we are teaching them to count and add money) she excels but in english and handwriting and reading, she's behind. Could there be a possibility of a learning disorder here and that's why she's reacting the way she is? Thanks again for your input. We are on witts end with this child but are trying patiently to steer her in the direction she needs to go.
