Talking
By Kimberly

Clip to ScrapBook
Hello...I can so relate with you all with the talking. I work with a very smart group of 7th graders that act like 2nd graders. They talk nonstop. I even had the principal come in and talk to them and it did not help.
I took away P.E., gave silent lunch, called parents, nothing works. I finally started using a chart and checking off names that behaved and rewarding the whole class if they are quiet in a given day. That too has lost its effect. SO, I bought a Yacker Tracker at the local teaching store and it is a MIRACLE. It is a small stoplight that you set at so many decibils of sound. Mine is
set on 80 decibils of sound. When the students start to get loud, it goes to Yellow and blinks. If they get really loud and it goes off then it goes to red and siren goes off. You can turn the sound off also. My kids sit and do not speak unles given permission. They even whisper to me now when they have questions in fear of setting it off. I told them if they set it off 3 or less times then they get a reward. If they get more than 3 than they loose a privilage. It is working great so far.
