I've been there!

Clip to ScrapBook
I had a bipolar kindergarten student last year. He had been diagnosed previously and was on medications. This student also had a counselor and a very concerned and involved mother. Although this student had lots of help,
many days were still difficult. I found that consistancy, and structure with our classroom routines were imperative. I also kept daily contact with mom and documented daily. This documentation was very valuable for by the end of the year he was placed in a special ed. program. I was praised for the documentation and close contact with mom, my principal, the school guidance counselor,
and our school special ed. teacher because this helped the placement take place much faster. Make sure that you do lots of research on this diagnosis. There are many good websites out there that give tips on ways to help these students.
I highly suggest;
1. consistant classroom routines.
2. close communication with parents, counselors, and school personnel.
3. detailed, daily documentation
4. ask for help when necessary,
some days are very difficult.
5. research websites and books to
become more knowledgeable about
bipolar children.
This child is now in a special ed. program and doing very well. Good Luck!
