I understand your frustration. I teach 6th grade and at one time I wanted to teach 1-3 grade. Middle school students are very challenging in some ways, but I love that they are able to work independently and carry on a somewhat adult conversation with you. I think you should try a new grade and rack this year up as a good learning experience. Now you know younger children are not your cup of tea. There's nothing wrong with that. The point of teaching is to learn, reflect, and find your nitch. I believe all of us are gifted with certain age groups. Jr. High students need teachers who can work with them and understand what they are going through. Sounds like you would do an awesome job! Good luck.
