I am sitting home with a cold this weekend. I am not a new teacher, but I, too, am exhausted by the demands of my job. I feel that I work so much harder than my lazy students who don't complete their projects on time or
don't seem inclined to completing them at all. Sometimes, I feel like a sled dog towing 25 children behind me. It just gets so heavy and tiresome. Then there are after-school meetings, computer workshop training sessions, parent conferences, paper grading, etc. I spent the morning working on a packet because I was elected Teacher of the Year. Of course, that's an honor, but it is a
lot of work being teacher of the year, since my principal expects me to compete first districtwide, then statewide. I have to document my instructional materials and strategies for this. I still have to plan. We have a new science textbook this year, and I learned that one of my usually used novels (Bridge to Terabithia) was used by last year's teacher. I had to read and do another novel. It's endless, our responsibilities, and I am ready for a vacation.
