I also am a first year teacher. I am 29 and I have 2 sons (8 and 2). I also know the feeling that you are talking about. However, I am very lucky, I get planning period every day. And it is the last period of the day (I teach 7th and 8th grade) I have learned to do all my planning at school. Every now and then, I might research something or have to grade something but it is seldom. Now, I do get flack from the other teachers because I never have time to socialize in the lounge with them. Some nasty things have happened with them. However, I do have free time with my kids.
You said that you teach 1st grade, right? Do they have nap time still? maybe you could get some of your work done then? I also use my lunch time.. it gets hectic but is worth it in the long run.good luck to you. Overtime, your husband will understand and you will find that happy medium.. Trish
