disappointed

Clip to ScrapBook
In all honesty, Anne, I don't think you are being fair. You stated what you would not want to do and you have opened a door that I am interested in hearing about. I use Lee Canter's Assertive Discipline to an extent--my rewards,
however, are minimal. My students know that good behavior is an expectation and they will not get stickers or points or school money for following the rules. They do earn perks in the sense of positive comments and praise, and when other teachers compliment them, they receive a "whole class" reward. They know they must work cooperatively to do this. I do, however, enforce consequences
for when children do not follow the code of conduct. I have had many years (I have been teaching for over 15) where this program has been extremely successful, and the occasional year where I have had to "fine tune" it to meet more specific demands/needs of my students. So when I ask my questions, I ask out of curiosity. How far away is my perspective from yours? What do you do differently than us? Is it something we might want to try? Whether others are supporting your comments or not is a chance we all take when we post on this board. You joined this conversation by responding to Fed Up, and I am disappointed that you will not follow through with more information. However, that is your choice. We all learn as we teach, and it is through our conversations with others that we are exposed to new ideas. I am sure you are frustrated that your comments weren't well-received, but don't leave this conversation unfinished. Thanks.
