Re: Late hold over.
By Jill

Clip to ScrapBook
I am going through the same thing in my third grade class. I have several students in my class that do everything I ask them to do and more, but they just don't have what it takes to be successful in fourth grade. I have
decided that I will hold parent conferences and share my thoughts with the parents. I will then explain my delimma with the parents and show them work that their child is doing in class. I will also explain what the expectations are in fourth grade and how stressful it would be to promote their child that is working way below grade level. I have ultimately left that decision up to
the parent with my recommendation. If the parent chooses not to retain I must go on (this took me many years to do). Over the years my personal feelings have become.. I only have the child for one year. The parent has the child for the rest of their lives.
