Not being too harsh...
By Lisa in TX

Clip to ScrapBook
I *am* a first year teacher. I've got a rough group. I know EXACTLY what Greg is going through. The reason I posted was because he said that he was being blamed for the students' actions. As a teacher with a rough class,
I used to just say that this was how my class was, and I couldn't do much about it. I've learned that you can't be that way. Sure, I have kids with major problems where the parents aren't doing anything to help. But when they come into my room they are my responsibility. I may not be able to get them to read silently for a half hour like the teacher across the hall, and I may not
be able to get their homework in every day, but I try whatever I can to mold their behavior.

Instead of the poster being upset, he needs to look what he needs to do to improve things. I'm not being harsh, I'm being realistic. If he becomes proactive instead of placing blame, he will have a better (not perfect, but better) class and will feel better about his chosen profession.
