I too think that asking teachers to be on jury duty is not a good idea. I was on a jury that met for three days a month for 22 months. I felt that my students suffered because of it. I had special ed students and they ended up doing a lot of busy work while I was gone regardless of what ideas I left. Another point I want to make was that when I taught I often had classes all summer long with only a one week break in August.
