You are not alone! By E. Lozano

In today's society, with so many demands being placed on education, there is not a teacher out there who feels as if they've covered everything they would have liked in the manner they would have liked to. Hopefully, your| school is curriculum mapping your curriculum to make sure grade levels are not overlapping certain skills. Deciding what is most important at each grade level may take some of the burden off of you. As I read the other postings, I tend to agree that math is an area where pacing is extremely difficult. With the new accountability systems in place that require students to know so much, so | | quick sometimes you will feel like you are just exposing kids to concepts, rather than really teaching them. The key is to not get frustrated. Try to integrate concepts across the curriculum. For example, many reading comprehension skills can be taught through the science and social studies books. Don't feel as if your effectiveness is measured by how far you get in a given book. Your true effectiveness is measured in the actual learning gains of your students. As their teacher, you know what pace is best to accomplish this. The fact that you are self-reflecting on your teaching practices shows you have the potential to be a remarkable teacher for years to come.
