This is one more reason that merit pay is ridiculous! You can work day and night with children and they may still score low on the state test. Therefore, you are not a good teacher! I had a very advanced class last year who could always rise to the challange. This year, my students have more difficulty and they are working just as hard. Testing has become the holy grail in our country; forget class size, early intervention and after school programs........it's all about passing the test and that is a sin! I'll get down off my soapbox now
