You're welcome! By Carolyn

I think it's good that you will spend more time on what you need to get across to the kids. In our district, we are told to teach math and reading. Forget social studies. Forget science. At least until you are caught| up in math and reading. Our kids aren't being tested in science and social studies, but in reading, writing, and math. For some reason, no matter what kids you get, we are evaluated as "good" teachers or "bad" teachers, based upon the results of those darned tests. Never mind that we didn't have any parental support throughout the year, or had children with excessive absences, emotional | | or physical problems (discipline problems)that were so severe that neither they nor the other children in the room could stay focused, or a group of children who were so far below grade level that they never will have hope of catching up. Nevertheless, our scores show up in the district office, the state office, and in parents' and school board members' hands, and WE, the teachers, are unfairly judged by this. I think you will do fine. It sounds as if you know exactly where you need to be heading.
