Writing as Punishment
By Please don't make this mistake

Clip to ScrapBook
I've said it before and I will say it again....
Writing "I will not..." sentences as a punishment should be avoided at all costs!!!! It is simply NOT CONSTRUCTIVE for any student and can be detrimental to a child's appreciation
of writing. It is completely contradictory for a teacher to employ writing as a method of punishment and then encourage students to embrace it in return. For those who simply can't see beyond what I am saying, at least make the "punishment writing" a bit more creative, i.e. "Why is it important to have a quiet environment for learning?" Or "How I contributed in a positive/negative
way to today's lesson and what I plan to contribute to future lessons." The latter would allow those students who weren't actually the "culprits" to express their case and yet still receive educational benefit in the form of a guided writing exercise. Writing repetitive statements serves no educational purpose and can actually do more harm than good in the long wrong.
Please consider this when determining a discipline plan.
