What I started to do with my dicipline problem students is have them write 100 times, I will not do "whatever". I also work in an inner city school and it has been very hard to get them to listen and follow directions. Some days are better than others. At first they did not take me seriously, but I handed out a whole class punishment one day which I know is not fair but it seemed to work. I just told them if you want to have any fun you WILL follow the rules! Now I just have to threaten the offenders and they usually shape up. I felt bad at first, but then I also thought of it as good handwriting practice!!!
