Social Studies...Science- What's that???

I understand, I understand, I undersatnd. The vetern teacher across the hall fom me (she teaches 2nd grade) and i have a standing joke "Science, social studies... what's that!" meaning..there is no time to teach those areas.| I find myself scrambling to produce some form of easy assessment for a grade near the end of the marking period for these grades. I really think that stinks. I personally find those two subjects to be fun and exciting (for me and the kids.) Don't get me wrong, I think that having an assembly on trains, planes and automobiles or something similar every other day (lol- slight | |
exateration) is nice- but do they realize how much time that it takes away from teaching? No joke- this week my class has had an assembley, a guest speaker, another group speaker, a touring museum, a field trip, and Friday is Read Across America. So, I'll ask again- Science...Social Studies- what's that???!!!???
